Placement rules & protection
There are two layers here: the controls set for your domain, and the protections that apply whether anything is set or not.
What you control
Per domain, set by your Adzen account manager. These controls are not available through the API.
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Page cap | Maximum total ads per page |
| Paragraph cap | Maximum ads per paragraph |
| Ad buffer | Minimum distance between ads |
| Initial skip | Content to skip before the first ad |
| Min paragraph size | No ads in paragraphs shorter than this |
| Placement toggle | Turn ads on or off for the domain entirely |
What the platform refuses on its own
These are not settings. They apply by default and protect the page whether or not you have configured anything:
- No ads in headers, navigation, or footers
- No ads inside existing hyperlinks
- No ads in link-heavy areas
- No ads inside headings
- No ads on excluded URL patterns — login, cart, checkout and the rest
Why this is the default rather than a setting. A placement that damages the reading experience costs more than it earns. Making these opt-out would mean shipping a configuration whose wrong setting is a worse product for your readers.
Only strong fits serve
A placement serves only when the ad is a strong fit for the content around it. A page with no strong fit simply gets no ad. Unfilled is a valid outcome, not a failure to investigate.
